The Story In Your Hands

The Story in Your Hands is a concept I developed during the 2023 Picture Hooks Mentorship, mentored by illustrator Alison Murray. This picture book is currently being developed in full.

Frog Blues

Frog Blues is a proposed picture book about a frog who is usually quite happy but wakes up one day to find that he isn’t anymore. It draws on personal experiences of depression to imagine ways in which people with similar conditions can help themselves, while understanding that these qualities are sometimes essential parts of being human.

No Good Granny

This is a dummy book completed for the second stage of my Master’s course. The story follows a small boy called Eoin whose grandmother is, to put it lightly, no good. She’s not nice, she’s terrible at baking, and she’s made of sharp edges.

But Granny’s secret passion for all things cars has the potential to bring them together – and take them on a wild journey through the night sky!

All illustrations were made with watercolours, pencils, and gouache on paper, with digital touchups.

New Tricks

Pufferfish, pencil, watercolor, pastel, 2021

These illustrations, depicting kids hanging out with the older generation, were developed over Christmas 2021. My grandparents taught me how to peel eggs, iron, and appreciate the films of Errol Flynn. What did yours do?
